School Science Review Submission Guidelines

There are now two parts to School Science Review SSR: SSR in Practice and SSR in Depth, each with different guidelines for submissions.

Should you wish to get in touch about an article or article idea please email: ssreditor@ase.org.uk

SSR in Practice

SSR in Practice is editorially curated to ensure a balance of articles for the reader and works on the initial submission of an article idea for approval prior to the complete article being commissioned.

Article ideas should be submitted via the Articles Idea Form.

Once you have submitted your idea and discussed it with the Editor you can submit your article online Submit your Article

If your idea is accepted, you will hear back from the Commissioning Editor who will discuss your idea with you via email. If needed, a short video call can be arranged to discuss your idea in more detail. General writing guidance for an “open” article can be found here: Writing Guidance - Open Article

If you are a teacher or technician and would like to write for SSR in Practice but are unsure if your teaching or practical idea is suitable, please share your idea (or ideas) with us and we can advise.

Teaching ideas should be shared via the Teaching Idea Form.

Practical ideas should be shared via the Practical Idea Form.

Remember, you do not need to have written an article before to become an SSR in Practice author.

Specific guidance for writing a “Spotlight on Teaching” article can be found here: Writing Guidance - Spotlight on Teaching

Writing Guidance for a “Practical Idea” article can be found here: Writing Guidance - Practical Idea

We are also building a small team of writing members who are available to support inexperienced writers in sharing their idea through a journal article.

SSR in Depth

It is still acceptable to submit a fully written article to SSR in Depth and full submission guidelines can be found here: Detailed Submission Guidelines for SSR in Depth.

You can submit your article online Submit your Article

Please Note

  • It is the responsibility of authors to obtain permission, before submission, for the use of any material for which the copyright is held by a third-party including images.
  • As for all ASE publications, we ask that you do not submit the same article to any other publication at the same time.

Material published in all ASE journals will be published on the ASE website and some articles may be accessible to the public as sample material.
