The Association for Science Education (ASE) invites proposals for the 2024 Annual Conference

Conference Dates: Thursday 4th January to Saturday 6th January 2024 inclusive
Please note that International sessions will be incorporated throughout the main conference days for 2024.

In response to feedback, to ensure we maintain high numbers of delegates in all sessions and to ensure the conference team is not spread to thinly, we have made the decision to reduce the number of parallel sessions - prioritising high quality, highly topical, highly relevant sessions. We still anticipate a packed agenda but wish to ensure all speakers experience full audiences. As such we are looking to run a programme of approximately 250-280 CPD sessions across 3 days (as opposed to 350 sessions).

TIMELINES FOR SESSION PROPOSALS

ASE Education Group met on 4th February 2023 to consider themes for 2024.   Deadline for proposals closes Sunday 28th May at 23.45hrs

Email confirmation to presenters re acceptance of proposals 22nd July 2023
Email notification to presenters of draft session dates/timings 20th August 2023
Equipment request form to be received by ASE 29th September 2023
Completed Lab Risk Assessment form to be received by ASE (sessions requiring /scheduled in labs only) 29th September 2023

Criteria for Conference sessions, which may:
- Provide evidence and illustrations of research-informed practice
- Share ideas and practical activities from your classroom.
- Provide updates on subject knowledge
- Present research approaches and findings

Evidence-informed practice lies at the heart of ASE's work. Research and evidence inform the high-quality development of teaching and learning, through university-led initiatives and classroom-based practice. When developing your session, consider the research and evidence that informs your work and ideas.

All sessions will be timetabled for 50 minutes (or 110 minutes), to allow for a short break and for delegates to walk to their next session. If you would like to submit more than one proposal, simply fill in this survey form for each one by the proposal deadline.

The ASE promotes best practice for professional development as described in the Standard for Teacher PD - DfE July 2016 guidance document. Your session proposal(s) will be reviewed by ASE committees. Please be aware that not all proposals will be accepted for the conference programme for 2024. Successful proposals will be notified by Saturday 22nd July 2023. Presenters should receive the draft proposed date/time of their session(s) by 20th August 2023.

Terms and Conditions for presenters: Please note that successful presenters will be allocated ONE complimentary day only upon which their session is timetabled, whether presenting single or multiple sessions. Complimentary tickets are limited to two presenters per session unless invited on to an ASE organised panel by a member of the ASE Conference Management Team. Day delegate passes for other days must be purchased in advance. The ASE cannot cover the costs for any travel, accommodation, resources or other expenses required by speakers or exhibitors and is unable to reimburse any costs.

Whilst we don’t anticipate further lockdowns, recent experience has taught us to expect the unexpected  and we now have the technology and expertise to pivot conferences online, should circumstances force us to do so. In this eventuality, the Conference Team will draw together an alternative online programme and will keep presenters informed of developments.

Delegate fees will be agreed in summer term with ASE Trustees and advertised on the ASE Annual Conference 2024 webpage. Tickets will go on sale in early September 2023. Early Bird tickets will expire on Sunday 29th October 2023 at 23:45 hrs.
