Teach Primary Awards Winner: Wow! But why?

We are delighted to announce that Kathryn Horan’s book Wow! But why? has won the Teach Awards 2023 in the Primary STEM category.

Congratulations to Kathryn for all of her fantastic hard work, we are so pleased that it has been recognised by the Teach Awards.

The judges’ comments brilliantly summarise what Kathryn was trying to achieve and it's so positive to see teachers and educators using this book with their pupils to help further their knowledge and understanding.

‘we can all get caught up in the ‘wow’ and miss the learning around what we are seeing and doing. This book develops both teacher and pupil knowledge and understanding. Particularly useful are the links to how each ‘wow’ relates to the real world.’ - Kulvinder Johal PSTT Judge

More about the book:

Wow! But why? is packed full of engaging activities and ideas for educators working across the full primary age range. Each activity is tried and tested to help ensure success when used in the classroom; they also include an explanation of the science behind the phenomenon to help students explore the ‘wow’.

You will also find a range of links to primary science knowledge and skills, and information on how the activity relates to children’s own lives as well as the global community. In addition to this the book includes links to national curricula as well as STEM-based careers to further encourage how children might transfer the skills they learn in the classroom to the real world.
