Over the past year, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has been gathering expertise and views from its members and the wider community on how chemistry can help address the global challenges brought about by climate change and rising populations. The article lists the priority areas identified and summarises how chemistry should contribute to their solution. The critical role of education in bringing this about is emphasised.
