Description
The iconic Diplodocus skeleton that was in the the Natural History Museum's entrance hall is on a farewell tour of the UK, as 'Dippy' makes way for a blue whale skeleton. Children take on the role of Palaeontologists as they hunt for fossils, make their own model fossil by casting and design information panels for the touring Dippy display.
Learning Objective:
- understand how scientific evidence from the past provides information about extinct creatures
- identify the similarities and differences between real bones (blue whale), genuine fossils (original Diplodocus found in USA) and replica casts (Dippy)
- understand how a fossil cast can be made
