In this activity children learn about the dangers of hypothermia and the need to keep warm and dress a figure suitably for mountaineering.
Description
It can get really cold at times and this winter has been the coldest since 1986. In some cases this extreme cold has killed people. When you get really cold you develop hypothermia and this can be fatal. Hypothermia particularly affects people doing outdoor sports like mountaineering, but babies, children and elderly people can easily become hypothermic and die.
Children learn about the dangers of hypothermia and the need to keep warm. They dress a figure suitably for mountaineering and design a poster for a pen pal in Russia, telling them how to keep themselves warm in the cold weather.
Learning Objective:
- That some materials are particularly suitable for specific purposes
Children will learn:
- To carry out a fair test with some help, recognizing and explaining why it is fair
