In this activity children use their science knowledge to identify ingredients and compare reversible and irreversible changes of heating and cooling.
Description
Jamie Oliver is having a huge impact on school dinners in schools. He is trying to encourage healthy eating and move away from junk food.
In this activity children help Mrs Wibble the dinner lady sort out her ingredients. They have been mixed up with materials meant for the art department. The children use their science knowledge to identify the ingredients before Jamie's visit. They compare reversible and irreversible changes of heating and cooling. Finally they invent and write the recipe for their own Pukka Pudding for Jamie's visit.
Learning Objective: - To describe differences between properties of different materials and explain how these differences are used to classify substances e.g. solids, liquids and gases
Children will demonstrate this by completing the task on page 2 successfully.
- To make predictions where appropriate
Children will demonstrate this by completing the task on page 2 successfully.
- To use knowledge about some reversible and irreversible changes to make simple predictions about whether other changes are reversible or not
Children will demonstrate this by completing the task on page 3 successfully
