In this activity children are asked to discuss why Scott and his party perished.
Description
Explorer Scott of the Antarctic died in 1912 on his ill-fated South Pole expedition. The last letter Capt Robert Scott wrote to his wife, Kathleen, reveals the human tragedy behind the doomed journey.
Children are asked to discuss why Scott and his party perished. They apply their knowledge and understanding of healthy diet by considering which foods are high in vitamin C. Children will then investigate to see which foods can withstand being frozen and thawed. They are encouraged to write a list of what foods they would choose to take, with reasons why.
Learning Objective:
- that cooling some foods may cause them to change
Children will learn:
- that some foods contain more vitamin C than others
