Description

To focus attention on the processes and outcomes of learning rather than specific subject requirements, an in-school 'learning group' of science and other subject teachers was established. Even with the benefits of specialist coaching, there is no quick fix because for some teachers and their pupils it can take up to a year to learn how to make the most of the enhanced learning opportunities that AfL has to offer. Evaluation in three schools showed that this type of training was much more effective in embedding AfL into classroom practice than any other AfL training they had previously undertaken.
