Hands-on activities help learners to understand science concepts better. Non-availability of materials in schools in India stimulated this research to find alternative, readily available local resources. Flower-extract indicators were explored as a way of making acid/base chemistry interesting through hands-on experiences. Nineteen colourful flowers were selected for preparation of flower extracts. It was found that flowers with cyanin colours are good acid/base indicators but yellow flower extracts do not show great colour change in acidic and basic mediums. Cyanin-colour flowers showed a range of colour change from red to green in acidic to basic solutions.
